Presenting the project to this reporter at their Buea headquarters, the CEO recounted that studies have proven that most people go to jail and upon their return, they tend to have learnt nothing useful, rather, they often turn into harden criminals. To Noela Mwindo Lyonga, “inspire an Inmate” project which will be carried out as from September 23, in partnership with Bamenda-base nongovernmental organisation, Mother of Hope, will entail the training of minor inmates on entrepreneurship skills, education, and professional sporting disciplines so as to enable them easily reintegrate upon their release from jail.

The project, she said, will see the Noela Lyonga Foundation and her partners ferry professional instructors, entrepreneurs and coaches to the Bamenda Central Prison, so as to impact the young detainees with the essential knowledge required to help them bounce back into the society.
The launching ceremony will acknowledge the presence of the North West Regional Delegate of Social Affairs, the prison administration and some top dignitaries of the region.

On why the choice of Bamenda, Noela Lyonge noted that “we have a very strong base in Bamenda and our representation is unparalleled and of cause we plan to extend to other regions especially the French speaking regions but for now, we will be partnering with Mother of Hope to attempt to impact and why not change the lives of the dozens of minors who are detained at the Bamenda central prison.”
Noela Lyonga: The time for change should be now and not tomorrow

Noela Lyonga Foundation, it should be said is a nongovernmental organisation with headquarters in Buea whose main modus operandi is to promote volunteerism among youths. According to its founder, volunteering is not just essential as it helps build the candidates’ curriculum vitae but it also goes a long way to strengthen the relationship between the organisation and the volunteer which could earn them an employment.

“The process of volunteering does not just ensure a transfer of skills during the short run, but if volunteers put forth a positive attitude they stand a chance of being recruited into one of the top functions of the organisation. We try to get those youths who are really passionate about volunteering and we link them up with organisations and companies that require their services. Our aim is to impact young Cameroonians with the practical skills that they can use in their future careers,” she explained.
