Taken aback and frightened by the telephone threats, the station manager of CRTV Buea, Kangue William Wassaloko on February 26, penned a letter addressed to the South West governor notifying him of the threats while appealing for security reinforcement.

The letter, a copy of which this reporter stumbled on reads; “…an unidentified person called my collaborator Mme Charline Flore Demgne, chief of service for programmes and information at Mount Cameroon FM on Monday February 26, 2018 at 7AM. His message was frightful; that they are coming to Buea to kidnap the divisional officer, the governor and take over CRTV.”

In the letter titled “telephone threats from Ambazonia elements” the regional station manager pleaded with the governor to take necessary security measures to pre-empt any attack. “I therefore appeal to you to reinforce security at CRTV South West and put the whole city on the alert,” Wassaloko wrote.

It should be noted that this is not the first time the secessionist have threatened to attack Buea, a town they consider to be the political capital of the self-styled nation, Ambazonia. On a number of occasion, such threats have pushed administrative officials of the region to reinforce security and even institute week-long curfews.

As the threats on Buea loom, before we went to press yesterday, the exact location of the divisional officer for Batibo, Namata Ditend who was abducted on 11 February as well as the were about of the North West regional Delegate for social affair, Animbom Aaron Akiabom, kidnapped over the weekend in the North West remains unknown.

In the South West region, French based TV outlet, France 24, reported that some nine technicians who were working on the Kumba-Mamfe road had reportedly gone missing and weeks later their families were yet to get any news on their where about.

Responding to the current security concerns the government recently created the fifth military region in the North West regional capital so as to reinforce the military might and counter any planned attacks. A new regiment of Gendarmerie combatants according to the state broadcaster, will be deployed to the North West this week.
