Customs Dep't commemorate 10th edition of stakeholders night in grand style

The tenth edition of Cameroon’s Customs stakeholders’ night that took place last Friday at the spacious Hotel SAWA in Bonanjo, Douala has gone down the annals of history as one of the most colorful business gathering recorded in recent times.

The ceremony which took place under stick respect of the customs tradition grouped dozens of business partners of the sector described as one of the most vibrant in the economy, to celebrate excellence and take stock of last year’s activities as well as to strategize on how to improve on their output.
Customs director hands prize to meritorious partner

The ceremony took place under the patronage of the Minister of Finance Alamine Ousmane Mey, who was accompanied to the gathering for the first time by the chairperson of the CEMAC commission, Daniel Ona Ondo, and his vice including two foreign ministers of neighboring CEMAC states.

In his welcome address, the Director General of Customs, Edwin Fongod Nuvaga started by evaluating the part covered by his department for the last financial year before extending words of appreciation to all the partners of the customs department.

“Indeed, the mobilization of customs revenue in 2017 has increased by 53.3 billion compared to the achievements of the year 2016. In a detailed manner, on forecasts of 730 billion CFA francs, in the framework of the agreement agreed with the International Monetary Fund in the framework of the triennial agreement signed with Cameroon, Customs mobilized revenues stood at 731.2 Billion FCFA against 677.9 Billion in 2016; a realization rate of 101% and an increase of 8% compared to the previous year.”

“For the new year which coincides, as if by magic, with the celebration of the ten years of the stakeholders night of the general direction of the customs, gives us the occasion to reinforce the cooperation within the framework of the partnership approach in order to improve our performance, while allowing economic miles to make the most of the security facilitation measures put in place to their full benefit. The evening of the partners is also the occasion to award and encourage partners who distinguished themselves, particularly for the year gone by” he said.

To the Director General of Les Brasseries du Cameroun, SABC, who spoke on behalf of the partners of the Customs’ department, the win-win public-private partnership enjoyed between them (partners) as the customs is pivotal in accompanying in aiding to the development of Cameroon.


Mounting the rostrum, the Minister of Finance, Alemine Ousmane Mey took out time to congratulate the laureates of the various categories while urging them to redouble their efforts this year.

The guest of honor at the stakeholders appreciated the cordial win-win relationship that co-exists between the departments of customs and its partners whom he called agents of development. Acknowledging that the set objectives of the customs department for 2017 were met by 91%, the Finance Minister urged director of customs and his staff in collaboration with its partners to continue in the same regard so as to contribute in accompanying Cameroon to its emergence.


The ceremony which was spiced by performances from renowned artist such as Ben Decca and Bobgala Didier came to an end after the cutting of the anniversary cake which was initiated by the CEMAC chairman and Minister Alemine Ousame Mey.
