How Dr. Ngange rescued UB’s limping journalism dep’t

Little over four months into his appointment as the head of department, HOD, of the department of journalism and mass communication, at the University of Buea, Dr Kinsley Lyonga la Ngange, has not only proven his detractors wrong but is already building a legacy for himself as that HOD who rescued the limping journalism department from chaos.
Kinsley Lyonga la Ngange, a revolutionist to the marrow

After his appointment last August to head the department which molded him, Dr Ngange immediately went to work in fulfillment of his promise to completely revalorise the teaching and learning process at the department which for years now seemed to have fallen into an abyss.

Taking over an almost lifeless department marred by power tussle, camps, marks-gifting and uncontrolled favoritism by his predecessor, Dr Ngange first took it upon himself to reunite the fractured department and placing it on it well-merited position as the best journalism training institution in the country.

Migrating from the position of faculty officer at the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences where his reforms and efforts keep the faculty afloat, the ace CRTV reporter was determined to use his widely acquired knowledge from teaching throughout Africa and the world to transform the department whom he says is he holds close to his heart.

Upon his appointment, he announced to a battery of reporters that he will embark on a radical transformation of the department. And in less than four months it is reported that “life” has seemingly returned to the department.

Not only has the university teaching radio, Chariot FM, which was off air for months resume active and uninterrupted broadcast, but we gathered that he single-handedly financed and revived the Chariot Newspaper considered as primal in the training of future journalist.
An act which has yielded him much support and acclamation not just from his students but top administrators of UB as well. Information from the central administration of the university states that the journalism HOD has already won the heart of the new vice chancellor thanks to his landmark achievements recorded in less than four months.

In a bid to ensure the progress and growth of the department, Dr Ngange who on countless occasions has being invited by top universities in African and the US to lecture on media related issues, last year embark on a mission to mobilize the departments alumni.

Accompanied by close collaborator, the “revolutionist” took the towns of Douala and Yaoundé by storm where he met with dozens of former students of the department to sensitize them on the need to come together and provide a better learning environment to the future generation.

The journalism guru who has set many record including the first former student to be brought back into the department as a lecturer, the pioneer PhD holder and the first former student to be appointed HOD among others, upon his appointment reiterated the need to professionalize studies by bringing in more experts to lecture with the students.

A pledge he has since his appointment respected to the latter. The university don who according to his collaborators is not just assiduous, hardworking but tactful told this reporter that with the full support of his staff, the department of Journalism and Mass Communication will retain its place as the leading trainer of journalists and communication experts in the nation.
